MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday said the truck involved in the accident at Katipunan flyover, Quezon City, which left four people dead, was already “unfit to be operated” at the time of the incident.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II bared the findings after ordering a 90-day preventive suspension on the registration of the truck.
Article continues after this advertisement“We found out during the investigation that the same truck’s registered engine number is different from the engine recorded in the findings of the North Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (NMVIC) team,” said Mendoza in a statement.

“This established the fact that the subject vehicle is unfit to be operated,'” he added, citing Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code in imposing the penalty.

Article continues after this advertisementDue to this, the LTO chief ordered that the license plate of the truck be confiscated.

Petro Gazz, Pilipinas Shell, and Seaoil also said kerosene prices would increase, too, by 70 centavos per liter while gasoline costs would remain unchanged in the latest round of adjustments.

The LTO has since begun investigating the truck driver, as well as the company he worked for.
